Woodworking

If I want to buy a indoor sauna, which is better, hemlock or mahogany?

Both are high-quality, durable woods, but they have distinct characteristics:
Hemlock – Light in color, smooth texture, and has a clean, modern look. It’s non-toxic, resists cracking, and is often chosen for a brighter interior.
Mahogany – Rich, darker color with a more classic and luxurious appearance. It’s dense, durable, and adds a warmer aesthetic.
Functionally, both perform equally well for saunas—it usually comes down to personal preference in appearance and style.

If I want to buy an outdoor sauna, which is better, mahogany or old fir?

For outdoor saunas, mahogany and old fir are two excellent wood choices:
Mahogany: Offers exceptional stability and density; it is not prone to absorbing water and is insect-resistant. This means it is very difficult for it to warp, crack, or deform under outdoor weather conditions.

Old Fir: If you want a high-quality yet more cost-effective option, our old fir saunas are excellent. They are sturdy and stable, have a texture superior to regular pine, and their natural, elegant appearance gives a warm, nature-connected feeling.

What are the main differences between indoor saunas and outdoor saunas?

The main differences between indoor saunas and outdoor saunas are as follows:
1. Finish difference: Indoor saunas use water-based paint, while outdoor saunas use wood wax oil. The advantage of wood wax oil is that it has better waterproofing and is more resistant to outdoor conditions such as sun exposure and wind, making it better suited for complex outdoor environments.
2. Structural difference: Outdoor sauna equipped with a double-layer roof, insulated walls, and weatherproof seals to withstand outdoor factors such as rain and temperature fluctuations. The most important thing is that the outdoor unit enhances weather resistance.

Sauna Maintenance

How often should I clean the sauna?

Wipe interior surfaces every 5–10 uses or about every two weeks with a clean, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.

No. Deep cleaning is not required. All saunas are protected with a factory-applied coating. Simple wiping and proper ventilation are enough.

What should I do after each sauna session?

Leave the door open for 15–30 minutes to allow moisture to fully evaporate and keep the interior dry.

Are indoor and outdoor saunas maintained differently?

Yes. Indoor saunas have a water-based varnish. Avoid alcohol-based cleaners. Outdoor saunas are treated with wood wax oil and may require periodic re-oiling.

Is it normal for outdoor sauna wood to fade or change color?

Yes. Natural fading or light color changes may appear after 3–6 months, depending on climate and sun exposure. This is normal and does not affect durability.

When should I reapply wood oil for outdoor saunas?

Reapply when fading becomes noticeable. Light sanding and re-oiling will restore appearance and protection.

Can weather damage my sauna?

Normal outdoor exposure is expected, but damage from extreme or uncontrollable weather conditions is not covered under warranty. Secure the glass door during strong winds.
